The Ultimate Insurance Exam Guide

This article will help you prepare for the exam.

Whether you’re just getting your insurance license or looking to upgrade it, studying and taking the insurance exams can be intimidating on the best of days.  Here are some tips to guide you through the process.

MATERIALS:

First of all, you want to make sure you have the best and most up-to-date study materials.  Here are all of the different textbooks and the dates they last received a significant update: Fundamentals / CAIB 1 textbook (2011), CAIB 2 textbook (2010), CAIB 3 textbook (2013), and CAIB 4 textbook (2012).  If you’re short on time or don’t want to go through the thick textbook, you’ll definitely also want to check out our online courses.

EXAM SCHEDULE:

Next, you want to make sure you choose a realistic exam date.  Online exams are the most flexible option, they are offered in downtown Vancouver twice a day, 3 days a week.  If you are outside the Lower Mainland, you can get an approved proctor to take your exam on any day Monday to Friday.

STUDYING:

When studying, you’ll want to take the time to understand all  of the key terms and basic concepts.  This will come in handy when you eventually come upon some of the more advanced stuff in the later chapters.  If you’re not sure about something, you can contact us and we’ll be happy to help (even if you’re not currently a student).

Also be sure to schedule your study time appropriately (with our courses, you can listen to the lectures on the go).  Most brokers associations recommend 7-8 weeks of solid studying.  Being organized and being disciplined enough to stick to your study schedule is very important.  Set aside time to study in a quiet space if you can and don’t forget to take breaks either!  I usually recommend taking a 10 minute break every 1 hour of studying.  Even if you want to push on, your brain just won’t retain enough of that information to make it worth your while.  Remember, time is precious; be as efficient as possible with your studying.

Good luck in your studies!
